About

Well into its sixth year of operation, Gabriola Artworks is a vibrant medley of Gulf Island art, showcasing the talents of over 150 islanders in a two-storey 3,000 square foot setting of colour, colour, colour !!

Located at Folklife Village the centre and largest of the shopping centres on Gabriola. We are approximately half a mile from the BC Ferries terminal on North Road, most of the usual goods and services that you would expect in a small community can be found here.

The Annual Juju Show, held every BC Day Weekend, is especially popular. A group show, featuring over a dozen local silversmiths (many of whom of have international careers) is a definate “don’t miss” hit, with visitors from Washington, Alberta and all over the Lower Mainland coming back year after year.

This year looks to be even bigger and better! The last weekend of April through to the first weekend of May is the Annual Dancing Man Music Festival on Gabriola and Artworks gets into the act by hosting a variety of musical events throughout the festival.

Islanders know to circle their calendars for each and every Thursday night in the summer in order not to miss out on the legendary Opening Nights at Artworks. Each Thursday evening kicks off a week-long tribute to an individual artist and their work … and as many Gabriola artists are as comfortable with gallery shows in New York and Los Angeles as they are in their own backyard, these shows are in a class of their own.

Not only are these great parties too, but also a great chance to rub shoulders with local artists and drink in a little local colour.

And it’s not just the summertime that’s hot at Artworks, there’s loads of events all year-round.

Thanksgiving Weekend (Oct 11, 12 & 13) is a great time to visit as Artworks acts as Tour Central for Gabriola’s Annual Gallery Tour, with over 60 studios participating in this year’s tour.

Grab a cappuccino from the in-house coffee bar upstairs and let your soul soak up the creative ambience …

You’re bound to run into something or someone you never imagined!

Gabriola Island is the ultimate getaway, just a 20-minute ferry ride from downtown Nanaimo or a 10-minute flight from Vancouver. Gabriola Artworks is centrally located in Gabriola’s town centre, just a kilometre or two up the hill from the ferry.
